Flange Nuts

A flange nut is a hex nut with two or three, round or rectangular indentations, compressed onto the flat sides of the nut equidistant from each other and an enlarged circular base flaring out from the bottom of the nut. The compressions create slightly distorted center threads resulting in a controlled locking action when the threads of the mating part become engaged. Flange nuts may also be referred to as flanged whizzed lock nuts. Available and ready-to-ship in a variety of sizes, finishes and coatings. Flange Nuts (no serrations): Regular flange nuts have a smooth washer bottom with no serrations.  They are normally used with more delicate material that cannot be damaged or scratched.

Flange, Serrated:  Serrated Flange nuts have teeth like protrusions on the bottom of the washer base which helps limit the effects of vibrations and ensures the nut does not loosen.
