Nylon Insert Nuts

A nylon insert lock nut is a hex nut with a machine thread pitch and a nylon-filled collar at its back end. When a screw reaches the collar, the threads and nylon form a tight, frictional fit, restricting movement of the screw when it is subjected to vibration. Nylon inserts return to regular form after use providing continued use of the locking feature, an advantage over all metal lock nuts. Nylon is a good insulator and also corrosion resistant. Other advantages to using nylon include resistance to grease and oils, a low coefficient or friction, and the ability to maintain its strength when exposed to a wide range of temperatures. Available and ready-to-ship in a variety of sizes and finishes. Browse our selection of nylon insert nuts for your building projects and industrial applications.

Flange:  A hex nut with a nylon-filled collar at its back end and an enlarged circular base flaring out from the front end of the nut. The flange design allows the nut to span larger holes than a standard nylon insert stop nut while providing a more uniform bearing-stress to clamp-force ratio. Available in Grade-8 and low carbon steel.

Heavy Hex, Full Height:  A heavy hex nut with a nylon-filled collar at its back end. Has a greater surface area than NM-series nuts, making wrenching easier. Designed to be used with cap-screws and bolts which have a minimum tensile strength not greater than 90,000 psi. Available in steel zinc and zinc yellow.

Heavy Hex, Thin Height:  Identical to the NU-series hex nylon insert stop nut but approximately 35% less thick from top to bottom. Thin pattern heavy hex nuts are used when an insufficient number of projecting threads are present to use a full heavy hex nylon insert stop nut.

Light Hex, Regular Height:  A light hex nut with a nylon-filled collar at its back end. Designed to be used with like-material machine screws and bolts. It is able to be reused more times than a two-way reversible nut.

Light Hex, Thin Height:  Identical to the NU-series heavy hex nylon insert stop nut but approximately 35% less thick from top to bottom. Thin pattern heavy hex nuts are used when an insufficient number of projecting threads are present to use a full heavy hex nylon insert lock nut.
