Thread-Cutting Screws

Thread cutting screws are a class of self-tapping screw that create threads in existing holes in metal, and are often used as fasteners in items that need occasional maintenance. When using any thread cutting screw, the material in which the threads are cut should have a lower hardness by at least 10 to 20 Rockwell hardness points. Thread cutting screws come in many different head types that include hex, hex washer, serrated hex washer, pan, flat, flat-undercut, truss, oval, and round. Offered in a selection of drives such as Phillips, slotted, unslotted, and six-lobe and available in 18-8 stainless steel (303 & 304 series), 410 stainless steel, steel zinc, black oxide, black zinc, zinc green, black phosphate, and black phosphate & oil. Available and ready-to-ship in a variety of sizes, styles and finishes. Browse our selection of thread-cutting screws for your building projects and industrial applications.

Type 23: A thread cutting screw with machine screw thread pitch, a blunt point, tapered entering threads, a single wide cutting edge, and a chip cavity. Type 23 screws are well-suited for cast iron and zinc, aluminum die castings, and plastics. Type 23 provides excellent chip clearing with minimum tightening torques.

Type 25: A thread cutting screw with spaced threads, a blunt point, tapered entering threads, a single wide cutting edge, and a chip cavity. For molded or through holes in plastics and other soft materials. Similar to a type 23 but with a longer chip cavity.
